The Surfland project, located in Garopaba, Brazil, is the first National Park and Resort where the main attraction is an artificial wave pool. The pool, designed to allow year-round surfing for both professional surfers and beginners, is capable of producing 900 waves per hour, with each wave reaching up to 1.90 m in height. The resort's design, inspired by the fluidity of water and the stunning local nature, features contemporary, deferential, timeless style, with spaces that sharpen the senses and promote a relaxed and sustainable lifestyle.
Andre Krebs and his design team used natural materials such as stone, wood, concrete, steel, and sand, along with native vegetation, to create a resort that seamlessly blends with its surroundings. The artificial wave pool technology was provided by the Spanish company Wavegarden, further enhancing the uniqueness of the resort.
The resort spans a total area of 400,000 m2, with a built area of 31,000 m2. The wave pool alone covers 25,000 m2, equivalent to 20 Olympic pools. The resort's design also prioritizes environmental preservation, with 233,000 m2 dedicated to this purpose.
Surfland offers a variety of sports activities, including tennis, beach tennis, grass soccer, and one of the largest skate parks in Latin America. The resort also features trails, bike paths, a fitness space, a spa center, a kids club, an open mall, a surf museum, surf and tennis clinics, swimming pools, and a gastronomic village. The resort operates on a multi-property system, with seven buildings housing a total of 270 apartments.
The Surfland project was awarded Silver in A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2021, a testament to its innovative design and commitment to sustainability. The project, which started in March 2018 and was completed in June 2019, is a shining example of how design can enhance lifestyle while respecting and preserving the environment.
